And so now one bit of secret knitting can be revealed.
Thodora hosted a "PPD Crazy race" contest in January. The prize was a copy of my book. Me being me -- and because no one seemed to want to cough up their heartbreaking stories about post-partum depression -- I offered to knit a hat for whomever Thodora deemed the winner.
After much delay, most of which was caused by my lousy memory, the hat is in the hands of its intended.
Here is sits on my stove, post blocking.
The red, which is always a pain to capture in digital media, doesn't read quite right in this picture.
The color is closer here. (And, yes, my kitchen is pink with gray (and pink) striped wallpaper. This is the last of the previous owner's intriguing color choices. It's also the one that is going to take the most work to undo, so we're ignoring it for now. Please, join us in the ignoring.)
Because necessity is a mother, I spent the better part of an hour trying to find something roughly the dimensions of the human head to block this on. And, yes, this meant I was in the kitchen putting plastic containers on my noggin. Don't judge me.
The insert of a small salad spinner came the closest, fyi. I will wash it before drying more lettuce.
The winner was Netter! Here she is avec chapeau.
Given the weather the East Coast is expecting this weekend, she might get a chance to wear the hat before next winter. Which makes me happy.
The knitterly details:
Debbie Bliss Cashmerino Aran in (I think) 611 and purchased from my Local Yarn Shop.
The pattern is the Girl from Auntie's Celtic Cap. I lurve her patterns. The first ten rows of the cable pattern are a bitch, fyi. Clearly written, of course, but a little fiddly to execute.

NICE!
I have a new contest running that I'd love you to enter... :)
