misty watercolor memories
writerly Wednesday, dead

many things make a post

* One of these would be perfect in our backyard.

* While the speech is lovely, it was this stat that made me start: "a third of the country's black male population has been incarcerated at some point in their lives."

* Why it's hard to take someone's licence away.

* An answer to a question I've always had.

* I just remembered that I have a jar of pignoli in my freezer...

* On the foolishness that a transvaginal ultrasound will make you love your fetus.

* Apologies and parenting. I think every new parent does this. It's like the stages of grief.

* I honestly can't tell if I'm laughing or crying.

* I've added it to my Netflix queue.

* The twitching teens of Le Roy, New York. (This story fascinates me, btw, almost as much as the disembodied feet.)

AHhhh (sigh) Pignoli cookies. One of Mamalane's specialities. Don't know how close this reciept will come to the standard though. Instant memories.

Here is the best information about the evidence about ultrasound/abortion debate that I've found: http://drjengunter.wordpress.com/2012/02/19/pre-abortion-ultrasound-the-medical-evidence-and-why-its-important/

(And the blog author is right: no, it doesn't make you love your fetus.)

David Simon (of The Wire and Treme fame) has loudly been proclaiming about the intersection of race and police/incarceration for awhile. He calls it the holocaust of our nation. And while some folks fault him for using the word holocaust, the numbers are staggering.

And I was a youth when the Pan Am games were in Indy.. and went to the stables to see all the horses a month before the games. It is always wonderful to see behind the scenes for these things.
