quack, dammit.
can't stop. ducks will eat me.

when life hands you ducks, make pie

Still in duck-butt kicking mode so I'll be brief.

A couple of months ago, KCRW's Good Food did a story about Piemas. Never ones the pass up the opportunity for pie and pie-eating occasions, the Pie Goddess and I decided this was a fine idea if we'd ever heard one. And so we set a date that was far enough in the future that it was something to anticipate and plan.

On August 4, Piemas will be upon us.* The brains at the NYT must have known that our celebration of the pie was coming up, otherwise how else could you explain today's story about fried fruit pies, which I had already decided to make? It must be steam engine time, but for pie.

I'm also tempted by these pocket pies and a good old chocolate peanut butter jobbie. Hrm. Can one have too much pie?

*If you'd like to come by for Piemas, send me an email. You will, of course, need to bring a pie. But the more, the merrier.

Can I bring the carrot cake featured in that issue of Living instead? Or maybe just scoop the cherries out of the sour cherry pie? (I'm iffy on pie crust, which is probably a key element of celebrating Piemas.)

Mmmmm...carrot cake. That one looked good but seemed like too much work.

I'm iffy on pie crust, too, so am going with a cookie crumb crust or a crust that will be deep fried. I figure that even a lousy crust would be good if it were deep fried.

Come on down! Heck, if you were still in the Albany train station, I could come get ya.

"Can one have too much pie?"

In one sitting, yes. Overall, no - goodness, no.

Tim -- come on up for pie! I can promise Texas-like weather this weekend so you'll feel at home.

Granted - Texas in November. But still...
